Obituary for Ervin Sheperd
Ervin Michael Sheperd was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on April 22, 1926, the younger son of Stephanie and Frank Szypulinski. He attended Marquette University as an engineering student, which included being on the basketball team for a year, and graduated in 1948 with a BSME degree. Ervin joined Nordberg as a co-op student in 1946. He designed and received a patent for a railway hydraulic spike puller. He retired in 1988, holding the position of President of the Railway Equipment Division.
Erv married Mary Elizabeth Bruce at St. Peter's Cathedral in Marquette, Michigan on April 19, 1952. They had five children and lived in Fox Point, Wisconsin, where he was an active member of St. Eugene Parish. Erv and Mary retired to Daytona Beach Shores, Florida in 1988.
Ervin is remembered as a hard-working father with a great sense of humor and enjoyed working with numbers. He loved doing his daily crossword puzzle, working on jigsaw puzzles, and had recently started sketching to pass the time. He also loved socializing and used his iPad regularly to stay in contact with friends and family.
Ervin is survived by children Michael, Susan (Bill Hass), Nancy Splinter (Pat), Peter (Cyndi), 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Ervin was preceded in death by his wife Mary and his son Robert.
